Perfect for my needs
I live in a downtown condo and wanted something compact to fit into my spare bedroom / office. I was looking at this unit which I bought and an Evolve treadmill. Both treadmill dimensions allow for under the bed storage or in my case under my futon which is what I was looking for. I also was looking for something that I could do some fairly consistent walking 3- 4 days at 20-30 minutes...I am not a jogger or runner (BTW I would not see this unit being ideal for real heavy running use). I was looking for a treadmill that I could use my iPod with which both units do. It came down to (2) factors for me why I picked the TR 200. The first is that my unit has incline which the other unit does not...I use the incline a lot to burn more calories and mix up my walks. What is really nice is since I change the incline often I use the buttons on the console that I can go to a specific incline. The second and not as important was that the motor size is a little bit bigger than the other compact units I looked at. The treadmill is 100% assembled in the box...I cut the back end of the box and rolled the treadmill out so I did not have to lift the treadmill out of the box. I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this treadmill for those limited on space or for walkers.

Bigger is not always better...
I bought this treadmill and have it set up in my bedroom. I wanted a compact treadmill that I could keep in my bedroom so that it would not be "out of sight, out of mind"...the best part is that if I want I can fold the treadmill up and put it in my closet. Other things that I really enjoy with this treadmill is the console. It has the buttons that you can push that take you directly to the speed or incline that you want to be at. The console is easy to read and I like to watch my progress during my workout so the profile is nice, it is on the smaller side but is ample to show your status. It does come with program options but I have not used them yet as I just keep the treadmill in manual mode and adjust the speed and incline based on how I feel. The treadmill is very quiet and smooth when changing your mph's and it does allow you to make changes to a tenth of a mph. I typically am between 3-4 mph BUT note that this treadmill only goes up to 8 mph so if you need to go faster you should look at another treadmill.

Shipping information: the treadmill was delivered by ABF and I received a call 4 days after I ordered to schedule a delivery appointment. The treadmill was delivered to my garage and I had to get it in my house and upstairs into my bedroom. It really is as simple as this...take the box top off, remove the styrofoam and tear down the back of the box. Once this is done, you can lift the back of the treadmill and it rolls right out of the box and to where you want the treadmill. lift up the handlebars and lock them in, plug in the power cord, attach the safety key and push START...there is NO assembly whatsoever! AWESOME!

Other comments...the treadmill does have speakers and they are what they are---nothing spectacular but they work. I have a iHOME in my room but if I want to adjust the volume or change the song I have to get off the treadmill so it is easier to plug my iPod into the treadmill and you can place the iPod into the magazine rack. It does have a speaker jack but I don't see me ever using these but it is there. Contact pulse grips are nice and I hang my towel on the handlebars.

It fits us...and our budget
I was looking for something that would not overtake our den and simply used for walking. (When we want it completely out of the way we have folded it flat and rolled it under the pool table.) We looked at the Evolve unit, Phoenix unit and utlimately decided on the TR 200 because it has incline and felt more comfortable with this brand with the online awards and reviews.

Their is no assembly which was great! We used a handtruck to get the unit down into the den --- SO I WOULD NOT GET ANY ADDITIONAL DELIVERY OR ASSEMBLY SERVICES. The speakers are just OK...sound is much better thru the headphones. The buttons to push to go to specific speeds and inclines are very nice.

Very pleased with this unit. It is very quiet and also we are very surprised how sturdy and stable the treadmill. Woudl recommend this for anyone looking for a good quality walking treadmill or if you are limited on space.

Good deal!
I ended up buying this at a local sports store and like the previous two reviewers was a bit wary to buy it because there were no reviews. I ended up finally buying it because of the reputation that Schwinn has with its other ellipticals and was not disappointed.

I had no difficulty putting it together by myself but it would be best to have two people. Thank you reviewer Toasty for informing me that the water bottle holder is not included. I'll stop searching my house for the damn thing now. I thought I lost it. The bolts, screws, and washers come on two cardboard sheets along with two wrenches and a hex/screw driver. You will have the screws left over for the water bottle holder. The programming was pretty straight forward until I got to the custom program level. I'm still not sure how I got past that screen.

The elliptical itself feels sturdy and well built. I am 300 pounds and it supports my weight without shaking or wobbling. The 18" stride and the handles feel comfortable for my 5'10" frame. I heard some complaints from the salesmen at the sports store that the handles were to far forward but I did not have that problem. The console is pretty basic but what was expected for the price.

Bottom line is if you are looking for a sub $600 elliptical that is well built, this is the one for you.

A wise choice
I am a soldier who has recently returned from deployment. While I was deployed I injured both knees and am unalbe to run due to the impact. I had tried ellipticals while I was deployed and was quite impressed with the work out I got. When I returned I went out and started searching for one of my own. My goal was to keep it under $1000. I tried many different brands and discovered that not all ellipticals are created equal. Many of them are cheaply made and shake side to side or make alot of noise. The stride is very important. I am 6 foot tall and the 16 inch stride on some of them just didnt cut it. I ended up buying a Proform 160 from the Proform website since it had an 18 inch stride and seemed to be sturdy, however, after discovering how little they care about customer service, I cancelled my order. I ended up buying an Image 9.5 from Walmart. I used it for about 3 weeks and came to the conclusion that the foot pedals were spaced too far apart and it put pressure on my knees and made my hips hurt. After thinking about it for a minute it made sense to me, who runs with thier feet that far apart anyway. My feet almost land in a straight line when I run. So I set out to find one with closer pedals. Overall I tried almost 2 dozen different machines and finally found the Schwinn 430 at a fitness store. I tried the 418 and 438 also, but the 430 seemed to be the most comfortable to me. The 438 and some of the other brands seem to have a high arch on the upstroke. The 430 was very smooth and ultra quiet. It is very well made and should last for many years. Amazon had the best deal on it and had it to me in about 8 days. It is a very comfortable machine. After all of this I would say to anyone wanting to buy an elliptical, try alot of them, I tried all the ones at Sears, Oshmans, Academy and Fitness in motion. Make sure the stride length, pedal angle and pedal spacing are comfortable for you, after all, if its not comfortable you wont want to use it. The only thing I think could be improved on the Schwinn 430 is a backlit display. Luckily I work out with the lights on so its not a problem, haha. I tried many machines that were between $2-3000 and this one was still more comfortable to me. It is a heavy machine, so get help carrying it in, but you will be glad its heavy when you ride it. It is some assembly required, but it has fairly clear instructions, so there shouldnt be a problem with assembly. Happy Hunting!

PRICE:

Amazon offered the best price at $600.00 and free shipping. With the lowest price and the confidence of buying from a recognized and established business rather than some online fly-by-night, Amazon was the obvious choice.

PURCHASE:

Online ordering was, of course, a breeze at Amazon. Shipment was done via "Eagle GL" shipper. Make sure your correct telephone number is included in the ordering process because Eagle will not deliver the product without an appointment. Delivery personnel were ahead of schedule, polite and helpful. The delivery is curbside only and you should make plans to move the 200 lb box to your indoor workout location. You may find it easier to unload the box at the drop point and carry in the individual pieces. The flywheel, however, may take two people or just leave it in the box and slide it up the steps.

CUSTOMER SERVICE / ASSEMBLY:

A real nightmare. Online reviews of other Schwinn ellipticals warn the prospective purchaser that Schwinn has a real problem with packing the proper parts. The 430 is no exception. Two right legs made the unit inoperative. Several calls to customer service, although they have a great bedside manner, netted little results as each representative advised different information and none could correct the problem in a timely fashion. An email to Nautilus, (parent company of Schwinn), upper management did result in action within five minutes of receiving the message after 8:00 PM. The problem was taken care of within three days, (even they had a problem with obtaining the proper part), and they showed a genuine concern for the situation.

The assembly manual rated about a 5 out of 10. Parts were incorrectly labeled and some parts changed their part number on each page they were displayed. Customer service either read from a different diagram or could not understand what was presented to them. Take it slow and as a hint, there is no M8x25 bolt.


FEATURES:

General Use - The ECB system makes for a very quiet, very smooth ride. Parents of newborns will find this welcome when space restrictions require exercise close to their sleeping babe (aside from an occasional electronic beep, but not a nap breaker). The forward and reverse option is an added benefit not found on other machines in this price range.

Size - No excuse here. Though slightly wider than a ski machine, the 430 will fit in any apartment. The front rollers make it possible, (not easy), to move the unit into a corner when not in use.

Electronics - Nice array of feedback though no backlight with this model. Heart rate monitor is lacking, however. When compared to a "Polar" HRM with chest strap the 430's HRM took about 60 seconds to display an accurate reading. Since the sensors are located on the stationary handlebars this feature is not helpful to someone who chooses to use the dynamic handlebars for upper body movement.

BioFit & BioGlide - Big words for "a well polished machine" Essentially this means that the design is such that there are no rough edges, placement of interaction points with the user, (handlebars, electronics, etc.), have been optimized and so forth. Although nice, this is what consumers expect in a product. Anything less would be a poor purchase.

Foot Plate - Although Schwinn claims that the 430 has articulating foot plates, (follow the foot's path to maintain contact with the surface), I found my heel constantly rising as in the motion of a cross-country ski machine. The plates are wide and hard plastic. Even with walking shoes on this is a bit uncomfortable. The plates could use a softer surface and a strap system to hold the foot in place.

PERFORMANCE:

Once you get the unit together you'll find one smooth ride (No reference to the manufacturer of other elliptical equipment intended). Since the unit was just manufactured in 2006 and this review is written after only one use, it is unknown how long the 430 will hold up to its good performance. For now, however, the 430, coupled with another Nautilus product, the Bowflex home gym, may entice you to cancel your exercise club membership, that is if you can get past the ego trip of the mirrors first.

Sept. 28, 2008 - Still going strong. A few minor creeks that could probably be resolved with lubrication or bolt adjustment, but it's still smooth, quiet and no mechanical problems.

Real results, from a real user
I have owned this treadmill since January of 2009. I normally don't write reviews on the internet, negative or positive, but I felt that I owed it to this company for the way they have changed my life.

There are alot of reviews, both negative and positive on this treadmill, but they are all written shortly after the treadmill is received. I will say that right out of the gate, I had an issue with some wires coming out of the wiring harness before we got the unit assembled. I was disappointed, and wanted to return the unit. My husband convinced me to let Sole try to remedy the situation first.

He contacted their tech support, and we were sent a wiring harness, which was installed by a very nice local repair man, and the unit was working perfectly within a week. After a few "I told you so's" from my husband, I got to use the machine, and I will never buy another brand again. The features are easy to use, the programs make sense, and I am within 10lbs of where I was when I graduated high school.

The machine is quieter than most on the market, and I love the backlit screen. I had looked at a model by Smooth that was comparably priced, but I didn't like the display. I didn't realize then how much I would have hated not having the screen backlit. It allows me to workout early in the morning, without turning on a bunch of lights, and still see my stats.

If you are serious about a treadmill, don't let the negative reviews fool you, and don't let the positive reviews sell you. Look at the specifications, and you will see, this treadmill really is in a class of it's own, and you won't regret the purchase.

Good Buy
This was a great purchase! I enjoy doing my workouts on a treadmill, but can't afford to buy a treadmill that costs several hundred dollars. The price was perfect, assembly was easy, and it is a great workout. You do have to work a little harder to get and keep the belt moving because it is a manual, but that makes the workout even better. It takes some practice to get used to the manual belt and to figure out how to keep your steps evenly paced, but after about 5 minutes you are into the groove. The size is nice, too. The treadmill folds up and stores nicely. The belt is the perfect size for my 5'6'' stride. My husband is 6'3'' but as long as he keeps the start of his stride at the very front of the belt, he can get a great workout, too. Obviously, I am very pleased with this purchase!

Wonderful for the price!
I've had this treadmill for about 3-4 months now, and wow. It's great, easy to store and move and works well. I use it while watching TV in my bedroom. I've already lost 20lbs! If you don't feel like going to the gym that day, use this manual treadmill instead! It's a great price and a great product. I'm really happy with this treadmill. I can't tell the difference between this one and much more expensive models. It has preset routines, automated incline, pulse monitor, a cup holder. Great Product

Good for the money!
I would have to say I researched buying a treadmill for some time and came upon this one for many reasons. 1. it was in my price range. I also saved $87 dollars on the shipping. As for shipment , it came fast and was in mint condition. Setup, was easy. This machine is a sturdy piece of equipment. Doesn't feel cheap. 10,000 Calories Burned Under the Sea
For those of you that do not live in North Dakota, just know that we get absolutely insane winters that last 8-9 months with sustained temperatures of -20 (not including the wind chill). While Lewis Black would classify this as a "national emergency," I call it "home." However, despite being able to tolerate the intense winters, I cannot go running during that time as jogging in 2 feet of snow is incredibly difficult if not dangerous.

Enter the Nautilus treadmill... and just in time for winter no less!!

I've only had the Nautilus treadmill for about three days now but I've already used the device heavily and have been greatly impressed by it's quality. After spending an hour trying to unpack the 300lb monstrosity by myself I finally got to see the highly digital layout of the treadmill itself. Unlike other treadmills I've owned the Nautilus has a full digital readout with control on the arm grips. The entire front panel is one large LCD screen with multiple readouts including heart-rate, exact speed, estimated calorie loss, incline, etc. This is somewhat standard on other lesser quality treadmills, but the Nautilus has a very easy-to-read blue and white LCD display that is quick to reference while jogging. Meanwhile, I can check my heart rate with the meter embedded in the metal grips, that measure your pulse while you casually grip the sides. This is very handy as most treadmills, I've noticed, require a clip-on pulse meter that becomes just another thing plugged into you.

Another thing I liked about the Nautilus was it's overall strength in frame and quality. Most treadmills cannot support much weight while the Nautilus can support 350lbs, which is good for me since I'm just over 300 (I'm also 6'5). I can jump around on the treadmill all I need and not have to worry about the device telling me that it is not a freight scale and demand I remove my gargantuan hide off of it like my Wii Fit does. Fortunately, the device comes with an extended frame warranty in case I do break it. Meanwhile, while I cannot truly objectively compare the Nautilus to other treadmills (I think I've used three in my entire lifetime), I can say that I do not feel as though I'm walking on pavement while maintaining a 5-7mph jog. I won't go as far as to say the belt is "ample," but it's certainly not concrete either. Plus, I do not have trouble with the supplied space given my height and proportionately sized long legs. This is a commercial treadmill and, as such, should have ample space (guess I did use the word, after all), for people of all kinds of heights.

The last set of features I liked about the Nautilus was the incline and just how fast the treadmill goes. My last treadmill could barely do the mile in under 10 minutes and could not incline without adjusting it from underneath with a ratchet set. With the Nautilus, I can go up to 12mp (a five minute mile), which, pretty much, is marathon speed. This gives any user, a high range of speeds from sluggish walk to Olympic speeds. I can recall spending the other night with my friends seeing how fast we could shoot M&Ms off the back with the treadmill at full speed. We didn't send them into the wall but it sure shot them out pretty darn fast. This may seem juvenile to many of you out there, however, I'm used to running outside only and the last treadmill I had access to was my parent's old clunker that had a max speed of 6mph... that and us guys were really bored the other day and had always wanted to try it (next time, we'll use raisins).

The Nautilus also can incline up to 15 degrees up bubble, which doesn't sound like a significant grade but it's incredibly wearing on anyone over extended periods of time. This is good since a good scenic hiking or running trail are in short supply for the good majority of us, especially if you live in the flat lands. If you want a real challenge, keep the incline on full as well as the speed and see how long you last. I lasted 10 seconds before I had to yank the emergency stop key out less I become embedded in the same wall as my M&Ms. Naturally, in case I do fall back too far the safety key (which should ALWAYS be clipped on to the user) will easily become unplugged and stop the machine.

All in all, I can see why many professional gyms use the Nautilus as their standard treadmills. Granted, I prefer running outside a LOT more than an indoor treadmill; however, when winter sets in I'm gonna be super glad I got this one. It's well worth the money!!

Update: After two weeks of prolonged use and now that it is snowing I've come up with a very effective exercise regimen that maximizes physical training and weight loss. I finally figured out how to program the track pre-sets to where it'll speed up .1mph after every minute until it reaches 6pmh and then steepens the grade after 15 minutes, and then slows down after 30 minutes. I'm trying to simulate the 4-mile hike I used to do around Mountain Lake on Orcas Island (Washington State) and it's worked out very well and all I have to do it hit pre-set 1 (there are over half a dozen) and off it goes. This treadmill continues to amaze me.

Great So Far
The box did arrive damaged, but everything appeared to be okay inside. It is fairly heavy yet easy to move on a level surface, but I'm not sure how getting it up stairs would work. The top of the console comes in three sections, there's one bag of tools, one bag for the cord, and then the rest of the unit. I was able to move the unit from my garage to my living room myself without too much problem, but I'm over 6' with enough muscle to do it, most people will need help moving it and all the directions call for two people to set it up. All the tools are included and it took only about 15 minutes to tighten a couple of bolts and unscrew a few screws, put on the console, and replace the screws. Fairly simple.

Just a test run today to see how quiet it is which I was concerned about, but it is very quiet, even more so than I'd hoped. So far it appears to be very solid and I hope to get a lot of use out of it. The instructions do say to use some silicon lubricant prior to use and after every 50 hours or 3 months, which I didn't know about.

I bought BOWFLEX PR3000 last week from a local store for $847.00. BOWFLEX PR3000 has been nothing but, wonderful. I will definetly need to upgrade to 310lbs later but, for now BOWFLEX PR3000 is just great.
PROS- Easy to put together, a perfect machine for me even at 6'3" tall. Felt a little awkward at first doing kickbacks but, got used to BOWFLEX PR3000 quickly.
CON - It states it has over 50 plus exercises but only lists 27 in the book. I called Bowflex and they told me to go to their site and look up the exercise manual for the Extreme 2. I did and BOWFLEX PR3000 shows ALOT more exercises because both machines are very similar except for the lat pulldown bar on the Extreme 2.
Everything else is perfect. I will definetly be using BOWFLEX PR3000 for a long time. The fact that the weight is upgradeable to 310lbs and the no pulley change system are huge differences in the workout saving valuable amounts of time to focus on lifting.
